Seeing
and Hearing Speech

Seeing and Hearing Speech:
Lessons in Lipreading
and Listening allows people to train and practice lip-reading at their own pace
and at home. This new interactive CD-ROM from Sensimetrics Corporation contains
carefully planned lessons that help people combine what they see with what they
hear to understand speech better. o User chooses presentation conditions: Auditory-Visual,
Auditory Only, and Visual Only. o Speech samples can be repeated, even in slow motion
if needed. o Background noise and intensity level can be chosen by the user. Options
include party, factory, or traffic noise, as well as calypso and jazz music o Every
lesson can be used in either practice or test mode. Test results are automatically
stored for individual users. o The lessons are arranged in four groups, each emphasizing
different aspects of auditory-visual speech understanding: (a) Vowels, (b) Consonants,
(c) Stress, Intonation and Length, and (d) Everyday Communication. o The eleven
talkers in Seeing and Hearing Speech illustrate the variety of speaking styles that
make some easier to lipread than others. $85; ordered online from
